Don't be intimidated by website design. Once you get the basic building blocks, it's easy. And don't forget - practice makes perfect!
There are tons of classes you can take to learn how to design websites, but they can be quite pricey. A more cost-effetive way to learn is to use instructional books and supplement that instruction with some tutoring sessions. Books are great, but you can't ask a book a question. You can't get feedback from a book.
In my first tutoring session, I was able to create links, format text, and do other site specific things on my homepage.
Creating links makes websites more resourceful and interesting. They are what makes the world wide web what it is. Without links, websites would be very one-dimensional and ultimately forgettable.
Just think of how many websites you've been to that have links. They can lead you to more specific information about a subject, making web surfing a more interactive medium.
